Entre distinctions honorifiques, discours institutionnels, animations et défilé, cette édition 2026 a été marquée par plusieurs temps forts.
This year’s edition of the International Labour Day was not only a moment to celebrate but also one to pause and reflect at the road covered so far by the national telecommunications operator, Camtel.
Staff of the company gathered at the Camtel Club in Yaounde on May 1 to commemorate the day dedicated to celebrate the rights of workers.
The gathering was therefore an opportunity for Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, General Manager of Camtel to celebrate the company’s staff for their resilience and commitment in achieving collective results.
Some of these results include the successful coverage of two huge diplomatic events namely the 14th WTO Inter Ministerial Conference at the Yaounde Conference Centre and the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Cameroon.
Des récompenses pour saluer l’excellence
Moment central de la célébration au Club Camtel, la cérémonie de récompenses a permis de mettre à l’honneur plusieurs collaborateurs et équipes ayant contribué au rayonnement de l’entreprise.
Ont notamment été distingués :
- les équipes mobilisées lors des événements internationaux majeurs, notamment l’OMC et la visite du Pape ;
- les collaborateurs impliqués dans l’organisation de la Fête Internationale du Travail ;
- ainsi que le personnel retraité, salué pour sa contribution au développement de Camtel.
Le Directeur Général a également reçu une distinction spéciale décernée par le Conseiller Technique N°1, en reconnaissance de la performance remarquable de l’entreprise lors des grands rendez-vous internationaux récents.

These successes, the General Manager said, are fueling the company’s ambitions to go further in its modernization drive.
“We are densifying our national backbone, extending our fibre network like one would deploy vital arteries, and modernising our platforms to offer more robust, more reliable, and more accessible services. We are launching digital services to better serve our customers remotely using modern optical fibre subscription tools, thereby ensuring their expectations are met more efficiently, » she said.
She also thanked the Head of State for securing CFAF 108 billion on March 6, 2026 from EXIMBANK China for Phase IV of the national backbone.
This funding, she said, is a strong signal of trust and responsibility and a call for greater performance and dedication.
“This project will strengthen the resilience of our network, improve quality of service, and bring Cameroonians even closer together, be they in urban centres or in the most remote areas of the country,” Camtel’s GM added.
She also stressed that this decision from the Head of State is a “call for greater dedication and performance”.
Un dialogue social placé au cœur des échanges
Au-delà de l’aspect festif, le 1er mai 2026 à Camtel a constitué un moment d’échanges sur les enjeux liés à la vie de l’entreprise.
Dans leurs interventions, les Délégués du Personnel ont salué plusieurs réalisations de la Direction générale, parmi lesquelles :
- le recrutement de plus de 700 jeunes talents ;
- la régularité dans le paiement des salaires ;
- les efforts de modernisation de l’outil de production ;
- ainsi que l’actualisation en cours des statuts du personnel.
Ils ont également exprimé certaines attentes portant notamment sur l’amélioration du cadre de travail et le renforcement de l’équité dans le traitement des droits des travailleurs.
Un appel à la responsabilité et à l’éthique
Dans son allocution, le Directeur général a insisté sur l’importance du dialogue social comme levier de performance et de stabilité au sein de l’entreprise. Rappelant que « nous ne pouvons pas être performants techniquement et défaillants physiquement », Mme Judith Yah Sunday épse Achidi a invité l’ensemble des collaborateurs au sens des responsabilités, à l’éthique et à l’intégrité dans l’exercice de leurs missions.
The onus is thus on the staff to get their acts right by shunning behaviours that pull back the company and hinder its growth.
Among behaviours is fraud which the General Manager said is remains a cankerworm which should be eradicated at all costs.
“My determination to continue fighting against all fraudsters and their accomplices, even passive ones, remains unwavering. Everyone should bear this in mind to avoid the administrative, disciplinary and even legal consequences that would ensue,” the General Manager said.
She also frowned at other ills such as indiscipline, absenteeism, unethical acts, and abuses of all kinds which hinder the proper functioning of the company.
Une présence remarquée au Boulevard du 20 mai
Comme lors des précédentes éditions, les Camtelois ont marqué les esprits lors du défilé au Boulevard du 20 mai. Le carré spécial présenté par l’entreprise, inspiré des quatre aires culturelles du Cameroun, a séduit les spectateurs par la qualité des tenues, la richesse culturelle mise en avant et l’esprit de cohésion affiché par les équipes.
À travers cette célébration, Camtel réaffirme son attachement à la valorisation du capital humain, à la reconnaissance du mérite et au renforcement de la cohésion interne.
Other Activities
The celebrations at the Camtel Club was an apotheosis of a busy week that saw the company’s staff engage in a series of activities.
The week started with sports walk across the city then followed by an educative talk on the rights of workers. Sports activities also took centre stage with a mini football tournament before a visit to an orphanage.
All these crowned by a colourful march past at the May 20 Boulevard where Camtel stole the show and drew admiration from the population that turned out to witness the occasion.
